Day 3: Sail to Sifnos island (33 nm)
We sail further south, to the port of Sifnos at the longest route of the week. The northern winds are expected to facilitate our trip, especially if they are strong enough to run the yacht downwind, assuming that the waves are not too tall to obstruct sailing. Always needs more attention when sailing downwind.
Sifnos is an expeptional island, the gastronomy and architecture center of the Cyclades. There are many restaurants worth visiting in the port, the main village of Apollonia uphill, or the bay of Platis Gialos at the south of the island. Visiting Apollonia is a must for the traditional alleys, the shops and the bars, while Kastro and Faros at the eastern coast have an astonishing beauty, worth visiting for their architecture, simplicity and historic value. There are also chapels scattered on the wild hills of the island, offering overall a magnificent spectacle. It is worth renting a car if you wish to explore further the mainland, taking into account the narrow roads across the island.
Docking in the main port of Kamares is the most common option, but there are several other options, such as anchoring in the bay of Vathi at the southwest, the bay of Faros at the east, or the bay of Platis Gialos at the south, the latter has also a small marina, but docking there can create problems, especially with strong winds.
