The Ionian islands are famous for their incredible natural beauty: the unique colour of the sea, the shiny rocks that cover the coastline and the caves, the wonderful forest reaching the sea level, these are the elements that elevate the Ionian as maybe the most serene and beautiful sailing area among the Greek islands.
The sailing route, as any route in the Ionian Sea is rather an easy one. The weather conditions are usually calm, with winds rising only in the afternoon hours, after 2-3 pm and dropping again before midnight. So, during most of the day you can sail without any wind, or you can choose to enjoy the breeze and sail in the afternoon hours. Most days include few hours only of sailing, with the exception of the trip from / to Paxos island, which requires 5-6 hours from Lefkas.
It is worth noting that the sailing trip started in Lefkas, which is the largest sailing base in the Ionian Sea. This is because of the easy access to Lefkas from land, as well as its proximity to most Ionian islands. Chartering a sailing yacht or catamaran in Lefkas is the most common way to enjoy sailing holidays in the Ionian Sea
