IONIAN ISLANDS

Care Free Sailing Experiences in an amazing Landscape

The Ionian Islands lie off the western coast of Greece. The area includes seven main islands, ten smaller ones and numerous uninhabited islets. Corfu, Lefkas, Zante and the mythical Ithaca are the most popular sailing destinations, yet again, Kefalonia, Paxoi and the smaller islands have nothing to be jealous of their bigger brothers, in terms of beauty in natural landscape.

Breathtaking Destinations

The main characteristic of the Ionian landscape is their green color due to the trees that cover them and run down to the sea level. Another characteristic are the numerous, isolated bays with tranquil waters, around each and every island. This combination creates ideal destinations for sailing holidays, since yachts can anchor in ideal settings, and travellers can admire the natural beauty hardly found in any other place.

Most of the Ionian islands are close to each other which makes moving from one to the other a timeless journey. Corfu and Paxoi lie farther to the north, nevertheless their distinctive landscape make them worth visiting.

Sailing trips in the Ionian Sea start either in Lefkas, at the centre of the region, or from Corfu, at the North. Lately, Preveza and Palairos, which have emerged as alternative ports, are located on the mainland coast, near Lefkas.

When starting from Lefkas, most routes include the islands of Kefalonia, Ithaca and Kalamos, including more, smaller islets nearby. It is also possible to visit the amazing Paxos and Antipaxos, further north.

Sailing cruises starting from Corfu, usually head south to Paxos as well as the beautiful coast of the mainland. An alternative option, equally charming and fascinating, is to head northwest and visit the small islets of Erikoussa and Othonoi. No matter your decision, all destinations are amazing and worth exploring.
