SAILING TO MILOS FROM LAVRION PORT

1 week itinerary to breathtaking swimming spots

Indulge yourself to some of the most spectacular swimming spots of Cyclades, in Milos, Kythnos, Sifnos and Serifos.

The proposed itinerary will allow you to explore and swim in some of the most beautiful spots in the Greek islands. At the same time, this journey will realize your sailing ambitions, in ideal sailing weather conditions, throughout the week. Whether you choose to go bareboat or to hire one of our experienced skippers, we guarantee the most unforgettable vacation.

Cyclades Islands is the most challenging sailing area in the Greek seas. Main factor that defines wind force in summer months is the 'meltemi', the northern wind that blows, from early July to mid August, usually around 5 Beauforts, with gusts that can reach up to 8Bft. The wind blows stronger during mid day, so we advize you to travel early in the morning, in order to avoid the strong wind. Wind direction is purely north, or North West.

Big waves can be also caused by the meltemi. The waves start forming from the North Aegean coast and build up as they travel the long distance to the Cyclades, so they can become pretty tall as they reach these islands, up to 3-4 meters.

Having said that, the proposed itinerary is designed for sailing on the west-south Cyclades, where the winds are sometimes strong and last long. It is ideal to charter the yacht in Lavrion, as the port is located close to those islands, as well as  close to Athens International Airport.

Those who prefer a smoother and more relaxing sail should avoid July and August. On the other hand, those who enjoy sailing in strong winds, will appreciate the challenge to experience true sailing.

 Day 1: Lavrion to Kythnos

Your yacht will be waiting for you at our base in Lavrion, where you start this wonderful sailing trip. Both sailing yachts or catamarans are available to charter in Lavrion, one of the largest bases in Athens.

As soon as the check-in is completed, you will cast off to the first destination, Merichas port in Kythnos. The picturesque fishing port of Merichas is safe from the north winds and during the summer months it is teeming with tourists. The bay has beautiful crystal waters and the beach front has many shops and tavernas, where you can enjoy local delicacies.

Day 2: Kythnos to Milos

You will leave Merichas early in the morning and sail south to the island of Milos. Here you will swim in some of the most impressive spots in the Cyclades, around the island where the famous statue of goddess Aphrodite was discovered. Kleftiko, on the south-west of the island, with the unique rock formations and colorful volcanic beaches, will fascinate you and indulge you to jump in the turquoise waters. In the late afternoon, after you enjoy relaxing swims, you will berth in Adamas port, a safe, natural harbor, where you will find tavernas and vibrant nightlife. Alternatively, you can visit the main town of Milos uphill, called Plaka, with traditional alleys and picturesque, small houses. Sailing holidays in Milos is indeed a unique experience.
